These schools are held to the highest standards and offer classes that meet optimally five days a week or a minimum of four consistent days. To become accredited, they must meet the following criteria:
The classroom is a prepared environment with a full complement of Montessori materials. The uninterrupted work period is of sufficient length to provide opportunities for the children to immerse themselves in work they have chosen freely with three hours being the ideal. Instruction primarily takes place in small groups or individually.
The lead teacher in each classroom has a credential from a MACTE accredited teacher ed program and participates in ongoing professional development. The Montessori assistants provide support and encouragement allowing the children to develop their “cycle of activity.”
The class welcomes children that create a multi-aged community, a three-year age span being the ideal. Teachers are responsible for maintaining evidence of the children’s progress through observation and detailed record keeping.
The children are immersed in the environment optimally five days a week or a minimum of four consistent days a week to provide them with the opportunity to gently acquire understanding of all the materials and lessons the Montessori classroom has to offer. Attending school consistently provides the best opportunity for the child to develop both academically and socially, becoming an integral part of the community.
