Montessori Summer Camp Program Assistants

Dearborn Heights Montessori Center and Plymouth-Canton Montessori School are seeking assistants for our summer program.  Our ideal candidates will be responsible, professional, caring, patient and adaptable. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Full and part-time positions available in our toddler, preschool and aftercare summer camp programs.

Face covering is necessary indoors at all times and outdoors when not practicing appropriate social distancing.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Taking direction from lead teacher
  • Assisting teachers in the preparation of learning materials, crafts, snacks, etc.
  • Helping to maintain a clean and organized environment (including enhanced cleaning and sanitization procedures)
  • Supervising children to ensure their safety both inside and outside
  • Assisting with classroom management
  • Consistently modeling appropriate behavior to children
  • Assisting with toileting and diaper changes at the toddler level

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Love of children and willingness to learn
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with children and colleagues


  • Experience working with young children
  • Familiarity with the Montessori method of education

  • Must be at least 21 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have current certification in infant, child and adult CPR and first aid
  • Must have at least 2 semester hours in Child Care Administration from an accredited college or university, or a minimum of 3.0 CEUs in Child Care Administration. Must have one of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
    • Bachelor's degree or higher with 18 credits in ECE, Child Development or Child related field with 1 year of teaching experience in a child care setting and 1 year of supervisory experience
    • Associate's degree in ECE or Child Development with 1 year of teaching experience in a child care setting and 1 year of supervisory experience
    • CDA with 18 semester hours in ECE or Child Development plus 1 year of teaching experience in a child care setting and 1 year of supervisory experience

Additional Requirements

  • 3-5 years teaching in a classroom or working with young children
  • 3-5 years as a Director or Administrator
  • Pass a fingerprint background check
  • Hold a Montessori Credential or willing to learn more about the philosophy
  • Does not mind to travel to conferences when necessary
  • Strong communicator and likes to see others succeed
  • Strong passion for children
  • Rapport builder with parents and staff
  • Does not mind doing the job of any employee to be part of the team when needed
