Become an Accredited School
To become an accredited school of MMS, please follow the guidelines and procedures below to complete the school accreditation process.

0 – 50 students - $100
51-100 students - $200
Over 100 students - $300
First-time applying with MMS – To avoid timing out, download and complete the Activities and Materials checklist and ensure you have all Lead Teachers' certifications before continuing. Note if a school is accredited by AMS or AMI they are automatically accredited by MMS.
Materials and Activities ChecklistExisting or previously accredited schools - Should ensure they have ready any updated or new Lead Teachers' certifications, if applicable, before continuing.
NOTE: If an application is denied by MMS, all paid fees, less an administration fee of $10, shall be refunded.
Accreditation Guidelines
WHAT ARE THE ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOOLS?
- Each classroom teacher for each age group (3-6; 6-9; 9-12) must hold a Montessori credential from an AMI, AMS, or MACTE-accredited training center. The classroom teacher must be in charge and present in each classroom on a daily basis.
- The children that are enrolled in our school are required to be there optimally five days a week or a minimum of four consistent days.
- Each classroom must be equipped with basic Montessori materials.
- Practical Life (Art and Music)
- Sensorial
- Language
- Mathematics
- Culture (Geography and Sciences)
- Each class must have a mixed age group of children (infant (6 weeks - 18 months), todder (18 months - 3 years), secondary (12 - 15 and 15 - 18)). Beginning classrooms will be exempt as long as there is a plan to meet this requirement.
- Each class maintains an uninterrupted work period of 2 to 3 hours.
- The school must meet State of Michigan requirements and hold a valid license. The license should be displayed in a prominent place.
- All of the school’s media, both digital and print, must be consistent with MMS affiliation requirements.
- Students assessed through observation and record keeping.
- AMS and AMI accredited schools meet the above requirements.

WHAT ARE OUR LEVELS OF ACCREDITATIONS?
- There are Montessori programs that serve children ages from infant/toddler through high school. MMS accredits Early Childhood (ages 3-6) and Elementary (ages 6-12).
